Day 14 More Vientiane Exploration.

Day 14 More Vientiane Exploration

Another hot and humid day of exploration through Vientiane! There’s a lot of construction in and around this burgeoning capital city. Today I visited the That Luang the National Icon when I comes to monuments and Waht Sisket one of the country’s major religious icons.

Waht Sisket houses an amazing 4000 Buddha statues in small sconces around all of the walls in the outer halls and in the main temple, accompanied by loads of lager bronze Buddha’s in different poses. I had a quiet night this evening after catching up for a couple of beers with 2 of the gang from the Luang Prabang backpackers that I bumped into on the street.

The That Luang is painted gold and sits on a rise overlooking the Mekong and the city. There is a huge car park outside where national gathering and festivals are held regularly.

Up early tomorrow as I’m off to Hanoi in Vietnam. I’m going to miss the Lao, I would defiantly re-visit this still widely unexplored country and it’s welcoming and friendly people.. Kump Chai Lao.
